Completely unexpected and very humbling.

You never expect to be recognized for something when you’re out in public.  For those like me, you NEVER expect to get recognized, much less asked for an autograph.  It’s incredibly humbling and mind-blowing.  I’ve had a difficult weekend.  Starting with bad news on Friday, a jacked up tooth that led me to the ER on Saturday, and finally getting it taken care of on Sunday.  What happened was the spirit lift I needed and it came from a very unlikely source.

I was on my way home from an appointment and stopped by to get some butter for my Mama’s sweet bread.  Her bread is amazing and doesn’t need the butter, in my opinion.  So while I’m in the store, I get the feeling like I’m being followed.  I turn around and it’s a tall guy who was looking at me like he knew me.  I just smiled and walked away.  As I was walking out to my car, I hear someone yell, “Ceej?  Is that you?”  I stopped and turned around.  It was the same guy, but he was joined by a woman about my height.  My initial instinct was to crack my neck and be ready for anything.  Let me tell you, I was not ready for what really happened.

The woman pulls up a copy of my novella, “Loving Cia” on her phone, and the guy pulls up my website.  Strange, right?  I never in a million years have expected to see someone pull up my novella, especially since I took it off KDP months ago.

Woman: Is this you?  Are you the one that wrote this? (She showed me my novella)

Guy: (Nudging the woman and showing her his phone) It really is her.  Look!  Tattoos and everything match her pic on the website.

Woman: Can I have your autograph?  I loved your book and hope you will be writing more.

Guy: (clears his throat) She means, can WE have your autograph?  Your adventures posts are hilarious!  I look forward to every new one.

Me: (Humbled and shocked) Thank you both so much.  I’m just a girl that likes to entertain people.  I’m really flattered and humbled.

They actually only had receipts so they had me sign the backs of them.  How amazing is that???

One thing I’m extra grateful for is that they didn’t ask for a pic.  I looked like a hot mess!

<sigh> My life is never boring.
